Children behaving badly?
When a child suddenly changes behaviour and displays any 2 of the following symptoms, it may be due to Pans or Pandas:
- Vocal tics
- Obsessions
- Motor tics
- Behavioural Regression
- Compulsions
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Bed wetting
- Sleep disturbances
- Depression
- Impulsivity
- Changes in handwriting
- Anorexia
- Aggression
- Sensory Abnormalities
- Emotional swings
Pandas is an acronym for Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder and Pans describes the early acute onset.
Pans Pandas is treatable but often misdiagnosed.
As an auto immune problem and it is important to identify the specific triggers which invariably are specific bacteria. These bacteria are usually found in throat infection and may be responsible for previous health issues including multiple Scarlet fever events.
Culture based swab sampling may identify the throat infection, but it is important to remove these triggers from the home.
